Cameroon Leader Announces Youth Jobs Initiative

(MENAFN) Cameroonian leader Paul Biya announced sweeping youth employment initiatives Tuesday as global economic turbulence threatens job prospects for the nation's younger population.

The administration has launched a Special Youth Employment Promotion Plan designed to create "genuine" coordination among government entities, private enterprises, and civil society to accelerate job opportunities for young Cameroonians, Biya declared during a televised national address targeting youth audiences.

The presidential announcement outlined tax relief programs for companies hiring recent graduates, alongside pledges to commit "substantial" funding toward strengthening the country's educational infrastructure and quality.

"My objective is to offer as many of you as possible the opportunity to access quality training that will enable you not only to find jobs, but also to create them," Biya said.

The president emphasized that additional measures—particularly intensified anti-corruption efforts and stricter controls on public fund misappropriation—would be implemented to establish favorable conditions for youth advancement and opportunity.

Biya delivered the policy address to commemorate National Youth Day, an annual observance held February 11 throughout Cameroon.
